Camino and Banners

Just a fun song I found which I think you might like.
Hope you do.

-Sudhir

California : The Band Camino

Hey there,
I've been listening to a bunch of new music lately, but stingy-ly not sharing on the blog. Actually, some of the new stuff I can't even find on youtube. But this is a fun catchy one you will like. They seem to be somewhat popular but this is the first time I am hearing of them.
Hope your week is a good one!

Trees and Bees

I have mixed feelings about this song and I am not sure if you will like it or not, but I think you might. Dave Grohl (of the Foo Fighters fame) was talking about this song in a recent interview. So I thought if Dave recommends it, how could I not pass it on to you?

Hope you have a great week.

Again and Again : The Bird and the Bee

Interestingly, I was actually listening to some stuff by The Bird and The Bee today. They are quite unique. For anyone who is a Mumford + Sons or a Lumineer's fan, my song choice will be easy to like. Lots of "heys!" :P
It just occurred to me, that I still haven't read your essay. Completely slipped my mind. I'm such a bad friend, sorry. Also, we were supposed to catch up this weekend. Sigh. Let me know if you are free during the week.
Enjoy the music.

Let Me In

Sudhir's Pick:
Since you are already so confident that you are going to win this week, I shouldn't even try right?! Nope, I really think you will like this. This has been on repeat all morning. Super catchy and does all the right things musically. Enjoy!

Let Me In : Grouplove

Hey you,
I was super excited to find this band-- an indie Indian duo. Love the simplicity of the track- the young love story line, the funky musical arrangement, and the music video. I asked you the other day about your thoughts on Wes Anderson because I think their music video has lots of Anderson elements- the colours, the random compilation of objects, camera angles, etc. I visited the National Gallery of Modern Art today, so I'm feeling very artsy. Going well with this song choice!

They only have three tracks out, and I am waiting to see more of their talents and variety in music styles that they produce.
I liked these lyrics from their track- Philosophize.
"I've got a New York state of mind, In Indian standard time... Sometimes it just don't seem to fit"
P.S I like your choice. Catchy for sure. :)

What You Know

Hey hey,

Thought you might need a spunky exciting tune today. I certainly did. Such a cloudy day. Hope you likes.

What You Know : Two Door Cinema Club

Hello.
It's been a busy week with house hunting and lots of things going on at work. Haven't done my usual amount of music listening, except for yesterday. Had a perfect Sunday of walking around Hauz Khas Village, eating in a nice cafe and did some baking in the afternoon. Heard this track- a nice airy light song for my Sunday.
Btw, I've listened to a lot of  Albin Lee Meldau- quite an awesome artist! Great share last week. :)

Happy New Music to you!

The new year brings scope for reflection and resolution. It is a chance to discard old habits and embrace new ones. For us, we choose to fill our 2017 with more new music. Thank you for being a part of this journey with our little project. Stick around. We have lots more music to be the soundtrack for your life.

Tanisha's Picks

There's something so soothing about this song- the light vocals, the slo-mo video and the waves. I heard one song by the talented experimental musician Tom Misch a while ago, but was quite thrilled to re-discover him through this beautiful track.

It makes me want to take a rake next time I go to the beach!

Watch Me Dance : Tom Misch

Sudhir! Remember when we loved the Oscars?! Haha, last year we failed to live up to our Oscar madness, but this year we shouldn't let that happen again. I read up about all the possible nominees for this year, watched a bunch of trailers and got hold of a couple movies to start my Oscar marathon.
I found this beauty during my trailer watching. I love covers, and this one is pretty epic. Starts of with an eerie feel to it and then crescendos to this intense full-blown knock-knocking!  Hope you are just as excited about the Oscars this year.

Knockin' On Heaven's Door : Blackwall

Happy New Year, Sunshine! So since it is a new year and we talk about new music, I am sending you a newish song and a song which is new to me. The first was just this weekend in 2017 (so it counts :)). I found the second one on Spoitfy which is slowly becoming my best friend. I am sure you will be receiving many 2017 tracks from there.

My second song is also the 200th song on our playlist. I am so glad that we continue to do this and look forward to awesome ways we can continue to share new music.

Enjoy!

Shower Tunes

Shelby and I have been flatmates for the past 3 months and have bonded over Jantar Mantar exploring, grocery shopping, and chapatti rolling/puffing practice, amongst many things. As a flat, the four of us share our tastes in music over evening cooking, weekend chilling and party planning. Shelby mostly chooses to subject us to her choices through the bathroom door while she jives to them in the shower!
This week she agreed to bring them out of the shower and share her choices with this blog. Lucky us!

Much thanks, Shelby :)

Dinner Time! L-R: Sneha, Shelby, Tanisha and Nou

Hi people,
First time posting so let me introduce myself. Shelby here. I'm a engineer from the US but I've been lucky enough to be Tanisha's roommate for the past 3 months I like happy music so let me share a couple favorites from artists that dropped albums earlier this year.

I just found out about Local Natives, but I've listened to and would totally recommend all 3 of their albums! 10 seconds into 'Coins' and I'm sure you'll be hooked as well.

Coins : Local Natives

A happy song from a seemingly insecure musician. The Mowgli's are great!

This King Charles

This is the most unique sound I have heard. I haven't been left this excited and awestruck since I first heard Mika. There are several reasons why I like King Charles-
1) Unique sound but has slight elements which remind them of touring partners - Mumford and Sounds
2) He is from the London gang which does exceptional alternative music and
3) Beautiful thought-provoking lyrics. He has won awards for it. Listen to Love Lust

He will rise to the top of your frequently-played list soon. I promise.

Ivory Road : King Charles

Hey,
Absolutely love this King Charles guy. Been listening ever since you introduced me to him last week. I'm adding number 4 to your list- his hair!

Sharing a very mellow track from a band I came across recently. Fairly new group with just a few songs to their name. But it's so beautifully constructed- minimal guitar and vocals but such moving lyrics.

Have a good week. :)

Celebration Time

Monday Mephobics celebrates 1 year of awesomeness! :)

Hello hello!
One year already! Quite an achievement I think for this blog to have survived for so long. So many fab songs and from you and some from our friends. For this special post, here are two songs for you.

The first- this is very very new band from Germany called Kytes. This is their second track and it's pretty awesome. They'll be touring in the US this year, so hopefully they will get their well-deserved fame then.

The second is by reggae artist Mishka. His voice melts like butter! The title of the song is a little misleading because the lyrics are pretty depressing. "Are you happy with your plastic smile? ..."

Deep stuff, Tanisha. Happy Blogiversary!
I actually can't believe that we were this disciplined and committed! High five us!

Since we are going international this week, I am sending you a song by South African band A-King. Very alt rockish and a super interesting lead singer's voice. Can we continue this for another year? I Believe...

And in honour of our blogiversary, I am sharing what in my opinion is the most beautiful melody of all time. Literally, only Ingrid Michaelson could make this work. She is such a genius! Besides, the lyrics are hauntingly beautiful. I am sure you will enjoy it.

It's Still Monday in Hawaii

From Sudhir

Hey!

So I really, really think you will like this song. Remember when we were talking about Django Unchained having great music? This song totally belongs on that soundtrack. I know you enjoy songs with strong anthem- type choruses. This song has that and more. Thankfully, I was watching an episode of Colbert the other day. He was on there. Happy Monday!

From Tanisha

I played this for you the other day because I thought I had already sent it to you, but I guess not. It was a random find on 8tracks and I listened to it on loop for the whole day (like I do with great finds). Despite listening to it so many times, I'm still not sure what the lyrics are.

"Ooo, something that's real now. Ooo, it's better than here now..."

This is the debut track from an LA based band. Much anticipation for more music from them.

We are 25!

WOAH! We are 25 episodes old! How did that happen?! It seems like just yesterday we hatched this plan to share music with the world in our own unique way. To help us celebrate we thought it would be cool to have our BIGGEST fan be a guest blogger for us.

Delaney and Sudhir at Trafalgar Square for New Year's Eve

Sudhir had the pleasure of meeting Delaney Osborn during his year studying in London. Ranked "high up there" in his list of favourite people they took London by storm for the eleven months they knew each other including late night pub-crawls, plays at the Globe, running 5ks and 5am photowalks. During their time together they realized a shared love for several genres of music. This week we get a sampling of some of that awesome music!

Broke Royals : Strung Up in Lights

This band is actually a couple of friends of mine from college, but I didn’t listen to their music that much until this year. Once I found their first album on Spotify, though, I fell in love. This is my favorite song off that album, mostly because of the wonderful lyrics. My favorite line has to be the first one in the second verse:

“I’ve seen every city, I’ve seen every city twice.
But no city ever looked as good as this one does tonight.”

Mikky Ekko : Smile

It was pretty hard for me to narrow down my second choice for this post, but ultimately went with this song because it’s probably my favorite one I found this year. I love Mikky Ekko for his lyrics and alternative rock sound, but “Smile” really sold him for me because of its contrast between the music and the words. At first glace it sounds like a fun dancing song, but once you sit down and really take in what he is saying you realize just how sad it is.

“Smile, the worst is yet to come. We’ll be lucky if we ever see the sun.”

So Now What?

Tanisha's Pick

If you want a fun song to wake you up on a lazy afternoon, this is the one you need.
Complete with lots of clapping and sing-a-long type lyrics, it's a guaranteed foot tapping song. The Score's usual genre is lovey-dovey and this song is just like the rest. I'm pretty sure this infectious melody will stick in your head all week.

We're a thousand miles up and about to get higher...

Following the release of this single, was their equally praise-worthy track Catching Fire. Keep a lookout for their EP releasing sometime this year.

Sudhir's Pick

A friend of mine told me a while ago that if you didn't like The Shins you are crazy. They are a band for Everyone. I took his advice and tried them out an shave been hooked ever since. I was super excited when one of their songs was used to close out the penultimate season of how I met your mother. This song provides the constant rhythm and beautiful sounds to entice you into a journey yet you are constantly brought back to reality through the re-asking of the title -So Now What?

Oh I could sail the world...

I know we've missed a week. Things got busy last week and suddenly it was already Tuesday and we didn't even realise. Apologies. Hope these great songs make up for it.

Tanisha's Pick

I was watching episodes from this years Britain's Got Talent today. This is the singer and song that got Simon Cowell to hit the gold button! Watch his audition here. Calum Scott reached the finals and even though he didn't win, he's made impression in the in the indie world with a voice that is a lovely blend of Michael Rosenberg and Adam Levine.

Sudhir's Pick

Admittedly, I do not know much about this band. This is the only song of theirs I have listened to, in fact. But this is what this blog is all about - being open to new things, searching for new tunes and new soundtracks to guide our week.

The lead singer has a very Christina Perri sound about her, but with the pop stripped away. This song is as indie as it gets. Take a listen.

Fire and the Scottish Winds

Tanisha's Pick

Natasha North's 'Fire' has similar eeriness to the music of London Grammar, but with a lighter gentler tone, with each note overlapping into the next. The high reverb is paralleled to the acoustics of a high vaulted church or a cave.

The first song I heard of hers was a cover of The Cinematic Orchestra's To Build A Home- quite a sublime rendition. Her genre's vary with each of her songs, from country to folk to alternative pop imbibing styles of Bon Iver, Ingrid Michealson, Damien Rice and the likes.

Sudhir's Pick

Scottish band Frightened Rabbit seem like a bunch of ordinary guys but there music is nothing but ordinary. Admittedly, I am not the biggest fan of music where the lyrics cannot be easily heard but somehow I forgive it when it comes to these guys. They have a very special way of blending instruments and genres into their songs which you possibly couldn't conceive. In one stretch, you feel like you are listening to Mumford and Sons, Indgrid Michaelson and Keith Urban. There is a certain something comfortable about these guys. Even though I like songs of theirs such as 'Swim till you can't see land' and 'The Twist' (in my top 10 of all time), I wanted to highlight this beauty today.
