Firsts

Editorial Note:
It was Sudhir's birthday this past week, the end of the first month of 2016 and the start of the Royal Mumble, another project that Sudhir is working on. It is also almost our anniversary of the blog. We are proud that for almost a year we have been able to continuously bring you new music that has hopefully entertained and inspired you. This has been our first year and we have no plans of stopping anytime soon. You are welcome, world.

Sudhir's Pick
T,
It was so great reconnecting and hanging out with most of the old gang this week. It reminded me of the old days. And I looked for a (new) song but sounded like music that was around then. Super glad I found one. Even though the band chosen is a decade old, this is off their new album and it is glorious. Please to also be getting lost in the rest of their songs. I feel I might win this week.... might.

Tanisha's Pick

So, here's something a bit different for this week. It's not your usual music genre, but give it a listen.

Ludovico Einaudi is my most favourite contemporary classical composer. In his last 3 albums he's been including mixes of other genres and styles, more so with electronic and synth additions. I hadn't really paid much attention to these albums. I was sort of under the impression that they wouldn't be as good as classical pieces. Last week I listened to his newest album, Elements. Was quite awed by his ability to make his music tell stories (with and without the electronica) The simplicity of the melodies, the complexities of the layers in each piece; he never fails to impress.

This is his description of his album, Elements - "I saw new frontiers - on the edge between what I knew and what I didn't know - that I had long wanted to explore: creation myths, the periodic table, Euclid's geometry, Kandinsky's writings, the matter of sound, and of colour, the stems of wild grass in a meadow, the shapes of the landscape. For months I wandered in a seemingly chaotic mix of images, thoughts and feelings. Then gradually, everything came together in a dance, as if all the elements were parts of the same world, and myself within it."

Musical Interlude: January Edition

For the first Musical Interlude of this year, Anant Sharma shares his choices.

Anant Sharma is a musician, an entrepreneur, an actor and a writer. His musical journey began with Jekyll & Hyde - a garage rock band that performed across the country and even garnered a 3.5 star review from Rolling Stone magazine for their debut EP - Loud and Clear. From then on, Anant has continued to create music for both passion as well as professional projects including short films, commercials, etc. In 2015, Anant launched his solo electronic project - Man On The Moon, and now releases regular content under that artist name, while working as a professional music director and producer.

Find him on SoundCloud, Facebook and Instagram.

Tongues : Joywaves
I first encountered Joywave during a particularly long drought of new artists to listen to. I was immediately drawn in by the amazing music video for this song and their fresh hyper sound. The first and only album - How Do You Feel Now? - blurs the boundaries between many different genres, and presents an eclectic, high energy collection of songs that can be enjoyed in many different moods. From straight up hard rock to new indie electronica, it;s got it all. Really waiting to see where they go from here for their second album.

The Wilhelm Scream : James Blake
Wait! Before you listen to this, put on a pair of good earphones, or you might just miss the point of this song completely. As an artist, it sometimes becomes very hard to judge whether a song can work outside of your head at all. I can only imagine what went through James Blake's mind while writing and creating this track. The song has an amazing ability to keep you hooked just by the production quality it flexes. It's kind of the song that makes you wonder about where songwriting ends and production begins. The entire album - a self titled debut - is a tad taxing to listen to, but the more you concentrate on listening to it, the more it will reward you. I honestly think anyone making electronic music should hear this album at least once in their lifetime.

Happy 100!

Sudhir's Song
So for our 99/100th YouTube post, I thought I would send you a song which I think might be in the top 5 songs I have EVER sent you. It’s a bit different from my usual selection but why I like it is pretty self-explanatory. Her beautiful soulful rings through the entire time and the piano piece is spectacular. I think it could well be a theme song for 2016. Thoughts?
Enjoy! And hopefully, there will be a few more weeks when I will win. Have to keep building on my 6.

Tanisha's

Woohoo! 100 songs on the playlist :)

There's something I love about this song - must be either his voice, the old school vibe or the energy in the video, energy in the song (especially as it picks up). Whatever it is, this was on repeat for like the whole day when I found it.

Knowing me, I'll probably over-listen to it and then won't be able to hear it again for a while.
Until then, "Saaaaturday night, kind of pink!"

Young and Free

Sudhir's Pick

Hey hey!
So… remember a week ago I sent you a random name and asked you to remember it? Well, they happen to be your featured band for this week – Beach Avenue. Very chilled out and mellow but has all the instrumentation which you like. Fun fact. The lead singer of this band won American Idol. Of course, we wouldn’t know this because it happened several decades after we stopped watching. I went back and listened to this guy. We might have actually liked this season. Cheers to our youth!

Tanisha's Pick

So I am choosing a song from my November Playlist. As you know, I was climbing in the lovely Kudremukh national park just yesterday (already feels like ages ago). There's something about the song- the reverb, the simplicity of the arrangement, and the sound of the wind in the first few seconds that makes it the perfect choice today (the video helps too).

Next time I am off to the mountains, you should come too. :)

January to June!

Sudhir's Pick

Happy New Year!

I wanted to start with a bang so here is your song. I have never immediately liked a song as much as I do this one. Even though the lyrics (which suck you into the song) are rather saddening they work really well with the calm yet exciting tempo. Click the repeat button and sit back and enjoy!

Tanisha's Pick

I think I speak for more than just the two of us when I say that Dec 31 will always bring with it a reminder of that day a few years ago when we lost a friend.
I didn't intend to find a sad song for the New Year post, but I was looking for music on Friday and when I read the opening description to this track, he was the first person I thought of.

Pay attention to the beauty of video. Watch the expressions of the people. It's pretty intense. I especially love how some of those gazes into the past suddenly bring a small smile on their faces- a reminder of some beautiful memory.

Hope you make lots of happy memories this year. Have a great 2016 :D
