Slowing it down a bit this week. Has a little jazzy feel. Seems perfect for a Boston Legal moment. Hope you like.
Come on Up to the House : Tom Waits
Tanisha's Pick: Heard this one a while ago. It was a busy week last week and it will be a busier week ahead as the office is finishing off a big project. Thankfully there are weekends for fun things and new places. My brain is a bit fried at the end of the day, this song is a good soother! First Light : Dustin Tebbut
Sudhir's Pick: I know this song has a very slow start but gets pretty awesome from the middle onwards. It is a significantly more intense version than when A Flock of Seagulls sang this. I think you might like it :)
I Ran : Hidden Citizens
Tanisha's Pick: The song I actually wanted to share isn't on YouTube. So, I had to find an alternative. Very bluesy, soulful piece. Hope you like it. Society : Alice Phoebe Lou
Three days ago I was sitting in a café in Hanoi, Vietnam called Cong Caphe (see!) famous for its coconut cream coffee. Aside from the cozy interiors and yummy coffee, the were playing this really awesome bossa playlist. Loved it so much I asked and took a picture of the screen playing the music. Here's one from the list. Perfect café music, me thinks.
Billie Jean : Jamie Lancaster and Karen Souza
Sudhir's Pick:
So since we are going to with a little bit of jazz, I thought I would share this song I found recently. It is a song I am embarrassed to have only discovered recently, even though it's been popular for a bit. Enjoy!
The Revolution will not be televised : Gil Scott Heron
As one of the youngest presidents to take office, Obama has constantly shown that he is very responsive to the current generation and he and his wife continue to be influencers to pop-culture. For example, the hit musical Hamilton received a lot of attention from the Obamas. This week Obama announced his Summer Playlist on Spotify. Tanisha and Sudhir decided to take a listen and pick their favourites. Take a listen. Tanisha's Pick- Listened to Obama's whole playlist twice and loved his collection. This one though was the most interesting of the lot. The style reminded me of the soundtrack of the movie 'The Great Gatsby'- a 1920's twist both in the music and the choreography. Her unique voice really brings the song together to form quite an interesting piece. Man Like That : Gin Wigmore
Sudhir's Pick- This is so great. I can totally imagine Obama jamming to this in the Oval office. As the name suggests, the song just oozes smoothness. It's up-tempo and is backed by exceptional soulful voice. Take a listen.
This month, our talented friend Deepak is sharing two of his favourites for the blog. Deepak has loved music from as long as he can remember. While in college, he was part of an instrumental fusion band called Srishti. He's had the pleasure of playing with many musicians in Bangalore. He's even composed the tracks for a few online TV commercials. Bridging the Gap - NaS (feat. Olu Dara) 'This song is so cool!' This was the first thing that popped into my head when I heard this during Creed. I'm sure many would have heard this one before, but it's so hard to find a fusion of hard core blues and hip hop. The lyrics are super neat if you're into hip hop, but I couldn't get enough of the mixing.
Down the Road - C2C I'm a sucker for mixing/scratching and the blues. This is such a feel good song and can pump any day of yours. I love the intricacy of the scratching; kind of on the verge of goosebumps when the drops kick in.
Hey Sudhir, I found this the other day and loved it! One thing though; the video is pretty cool, and hence totally distracts from the song. So, please watch it first just for the video and then listen again to just the song. Loved the concept of this video as much as the song. Seafret is a fairly new band and released their second EP- Oceans early this year. Hope they have more music out in the coming year. Enjoy the song and the week ahead. :) Wildfire : Seafret
Hey hey! I discovered Beth Hart when one of her songs featured on a finale of Californication. It was a song called 'My California' and it lingered. I listened more and was lucky to discover this wonderful voice belonging to a woman with an incredible range. Plus, you know how much I love pianos in rock songs. Enjoy! Soul Shine : Beth Hart
Happy Monday! Tanisha's Pick Marvin Gaye left his voice behind. Jacob Banks found it, added some techno, hiphop, reggae, soul and a little rock and compiled his first EP, The Monologue. Such a work of art! I listened to his most recent piece, Move With Younonstop the whole of Fridayand it is so so catchy. If you are in need for a peppy tune to get yourself awake and on your feet this Monday morning, this one won't let you down. I'm surprised this one hasn't reached the radio yet. Somebody make this guy famous soon! But my choice for today is his track Worthy. So much soul! I can't even count how many genres he has tried to merge into one track. Along with the powerful lyrics, the song is hard to fault.
Sudhir's Pick Much like a lot of music, I was introduced to this song through a friend. While I have never hear either Gregory Porter or Laura Mvula before, I am now a confirmed fan. As always the soulful lyrics being belted out in the form of Porter's raspy voice is pure gold and lingers long after the song has been on repeat several times.
