Musical Interlude : Mana's Custom Soundtrack

Mana is a Bangalore celebrity! In Bangalore circles however, it is very easy to feel like you know a person because they are mentioned in your common friends' stories. I had the sheer privilege of (finally) meeting Mana in real life. She lives up to the hype of being super awesome and so much more. In addition to being a member of The Choral Riff, she also is the creative genius behind Mana Custom Art. Mana (much like us) found it hard to describe what music means to her in one sentiment.

This week she shares two tracks with us. Take a listen and be blown away by her super-awesomeness.

- Sudhir

I was introduced to this song recently by a friend, and I was hooked immediately. All of Honne's music was a revelation, and I'm still digging the groovy but easy listening vibe.
I really like the treatment of the vocals on most of the songs in this album. Very feel-based.

Good Together : Honne

This song has been around for a while, but was a bit of a late discovery for me. Nothing mind-blowing musically, but just some catchy, pop fun. I generally like Ed Sheeran's music, and this song has kind of been on loop on my iTunes. It probably will be until I get sick of it.

'It's Gotta Be You'

Happy Birthday Sudhir!!

I was remembering your last birthday- Campfire and tents in the halli! Was such great fun with the gang. Hope your day is a special one this year too. Continue being awesome. Wishing you an exciting year ahead (with no giants coming to gobble you up! :P)

Also, this is the 100th blog post! Yay!

Here for you today are three of your favourite people sharing their memories of you with these song choices.

We steal the show but especially with this one as it's one of the first shows we did together. Sudhir and I have been friends for 27 years and our families (great grandparents, grandparents, parents) have been friends and continue to be 4th generation in the running. There was a time when Sudhir and I ran a small flower making enterprise in our summer holidays! I am an entrepreneur today but if there's anyone I first got the bug from it's this guy. More important is his infectious we-can-do-anything attitude that's something I miss and enjoy when he is around. This song brings back such good memories each time it is played.
- Dheeraj

It's Gotta Be You : Backstreet Boys

Happy birthday you sexy boy!!! Your version of the anthem will always be my favorite!!
- Vivek

The Anthem : Good Charlotte

Cheesy and best because Sudhir is my sweaty topless superhero and I'm literally a call away for all PhD whining and venting! Much love and happy birthday to you, Suds!
- Maliha

One Call Away : Charlie Puth

Milestones

These songs are part of a new playlist- MondayMephobics 2

Happy Milestone! :)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So I know I sent you a song of Matthew Perryman Jones the other day so I thought I would send another one. Oscar season is here and his song is used for the trailer of Manchester by the Sea. And on further listening, I stumbled on this beauty. He sounds a bit like Bono don't you think? Hope you enjoy it!

Looking for You : Matther Perryman Jones

Hey hey,

Great music finds! I'm super excited about the Oscars- especially waiting to watch Manchester by the Sea.
So- I know we rarely listen to popular music, but you know, it's not all that bad. This band has recently risen to fame in the UK and they're kinda cool! This one is from their older album. What's not to love about the video! This is what good music should do to people; to want to jump and dance around without bothering what you look like! :)
-Tanisha

P.S. I can't believe you are going to watch Hamilton. Like, I honestly don't think I have ever been this jealous of someone. It will take some time for me to turn this jealousy into happiness for you. Gah!

Fallout : Catfish and the Bottleman

London Days, Eternal Craze

This week we have the awesome and splendiferous Namrata Praveen share her awesome music with us. Namrata and Sudhir have been friends since their time in London in 2013. A lawyer by profession, she finds ways to spice up her life by listening to and recommending exceptional off-beat music to fellow music- lovers. Here are her songs this week.

Hey Spudding (Sudhir),
I stuck with your alliterative theme for lack of better idea.

Here is Dizzy Gillespie's riff on Mas Que Nada. I heard this song often as a child and it never fails to put me in a good mood. Listening to it now with my eyes closed puts me a million miles away from grey London.

Mas Que Nada : Dizzy Gillespie

Next is Jain's Makeba. She had a really multicultural upbringing and I think that's reflected in her music. The video is fun as well and I'm forever grateful to her for introducing me to the inimitable Miriam Makeba.

Makeba : Jain

Hope your listeners have a lovely Monday :)

Happy New Music to you!

The new year brings scope for reflection and resolution. It is a chance to discard old habits and embrace new ones. For us, we choose to fill our 2017 with more new music. Thank you for being a part of this journey with our little project. Stick around. We have lots more music to be the soundtrack for your life.

Tanisha's Picks

There's something so soothing about this song- the light vocals, the slo-mo video and the waves. I heard one song by the talented experimental musician Tom Misch a while ago, but was quite thrilled to re-discover him through this beautiful track.

It makes me want to take a rake next time I go to the beach!

Watch Me Dance : Tom Misch

Sudhir! Remember when we loved the Oscars?! Haha, last year we failed to live up to our Oscar madness, but this year we shouldn't let that happen again. I read up about all the possible nominees for this year, watched a bunch of trailers and got hold of a couple movies to start my Oscar marathon.
I found this beauty during my trailer watching. I love covers, and this one is pretty epic. Starts of with an eerie feel to it and then crescendos to this intense full-blown knock-knocking!  Hope you are just as excited about the Oscars this year.

Knockin' On Heaven's Door : Blackwall

Sudhir's Picks

Happy New Year, Sunshine! So since it is a new year and we talk about new music, I am sending you a newish song and a song which is new to me. The first was just this weekend in 2017 (so it counts :)). I found the second one on Spoitfy which is slowly becoming my best friend. I am sure you will be receiving many 2017 tracks from there.

My second song is also the 200th song on our playlist. I am so glad that we continue to do this and look forward to awesome ways we can continue to share new music.

Enjoy!

House of Gold : Twenty One Pilots

Over and Over Again : Nathan Sykes
