Song in my Head

Hey,

Stumbled on this interesting song today. Such a quirky band. Despite the silly costumes, the colour and face paints in the music video, it's a pretty deep and serious song - talking about problems of starting anew, changing from an old self to a better self, yet clinging on to the dreamer that you are and still finding fulfillment in life... I think this is what it means, but I could be completely wrong. :P

Anyway, I've got this song in my head and it won't go.

Have a good week. :)

Spirits : The Strumbellas

Bow wow!

I am not sure if you know of my love for strong solo female artists - Ingrid Michaelson, Regina Spektor, Etc. This is one of my favourites. It is made so much better by the solo piano playing throughout. I am not sure what it means. Not sure there was wonderbread during biblical times. I will leave that up to you to decide.

Happy special week to you!

The Placebo Effect

Privileged to have Mr. Yasar Hameed write for us this week. Yasar is a multi-talented genius – singer, musician, photographer and overall nice guy. This week he brings us his two tunes that have been dominating his creative headspace of late. Take a listen and get an insight into what makes him Yasar.

Running up the Hill : Placebo

Running up that Hill was a song that was ahead of it's time both lyrically and visually when it was released by Kate Bush in 1985. This Placebo cover gracefully updates the soul of the song to reflect the aura of the times: It's dark, moody and there's a feeling of impending dread breathing down on you throughout it's 5 minute run time.

Wonderwall : Ryan Adams

Ryan Adams's stripped down acoustic version of Wonderwall just feels extremely honest and vulnerable. As much as I hate to admit it, some days, I pretend that Oasis didn't write the original version.

Fun exercise: Play the track from this website http://www.rainymood.com/ while the song plays in youtube. And imagine yourself in the middle of the swirling riptide of dismal emotions. Just beautiful.

Songs with Depth

Catch and Release : Matt Simons

I very very rarely like a remix version more than an original. But this remix adds a nice layer of depth and beats to it. It's such a beautiful song and video. It was such a long and tiring day today and I came home and played the piano to 'catch and release'. If you were in this music video, what would you be doing?

Stronger than Ever : Raleigh Ritchie

Actor and singer Jacob Anderson, popularly known as Raleigh Ritchie is a young British dude. This song is exceptional. It has elements of rap, solo piano and a strong vibe of rock in there. You will really like it, I think.

Just For You

So this week I picked a song not based on what I like but rather what I think you would. In fact, your song sounds more like something I would pick. It is still an interesting sound but just not the tempo I am comfortable with. I will admit though it would be really nice chill out music for Boston Legal moments.

- Sudhir

Hey you,
Thank you very much! That is the kind of music I listen to a lot. Makes for perfect working music and general background music for my life- easy listening, simple arrangements and beautiful lyrics. This one is a little sad, but still beautiful.

I feel like I didn't listen to much music last week to find something particularly striking. So, I've picked one from a backup list in my mind of an artist I listen to once in a while. I had put his music on a travel music last year and this song would fit there too. Also, I really want to surf.
