3 Weeks Later

I kept forgetting that we had a blog and that I needed to share music here. Sorry! For sure I listened to some good music. I usually make notes in my notebook at work when I find something interesting, but I couldn't find any notes today unfortunately.

Anyway, I am choosing this one more for the video than the song. I love travel videos and this one of India was lovely to watch. There's so much diversity and beauty in India; more than one video can contain. Lyrics are good too, so pay attention. :)

Glory Days : James Ollier

Sudhir's Pick:

A new favourite on the Indian indie scene. Check it out. I think you might like it.

Khudi : The Local Train

Rescue me from the Wild

I discovered this song quite randomly and was pleasantly surprised that it was a Mumbai-based artist. Interesting video to go along with the mellow accompaniment and voice. I'm sure you'll like it.
It's been a long week, and will be a busy week ahead too. But I am excited for a change of scenery away from the city and to the mountains.
- Tanisha

Wild : Dhruv Visvanath

I wonder what this song would sound like if it weren't so electronic. As usual, the lyrics of the song shine through for me. Hope you enjoy it. Take a look at the description of the song. Helps put things in perspective.

One More For Good Measure

Sudhir's choices:
I heard this song twice in the past two days in two movies. I figured it must have been a way for the universe to get it onto our blog. I really liked this slowed down version. I think you will too. Also, the movie is pretty good too. I would recommend it.

Take On Me (Unplugged) : Aha

One of my favourite Indian singer/ songwriters. I think you will like it. Hope you enjoy it!

Betther Than It All : Raghav Meattle

Tanisha's choice:
I watched the movie "Stranger than Fiction" the other day and I enjoyed it way more than I thought I would when I started it. Feel good, thought provoking in its simplicity, and such a good cast!
Anyway, in the movie this song by Wreckless Eric is performed. Yesterday I listened to Cage the Elephant's newest live album and they do a very good cover of the song.

Whole Wide World (cover) : Cage the Elephant

Let Me In

Sudhir's Pick:
Since you are already so confident that you are going to win this week, I shouldn't even try right?! Nope, I really think you will like this. This has been on repeat all morning. Super catchy and does all the right things musically. Enjoy!

Let Me In : Grouplove

Hey you,
I was super excited to find this band-- an indie Indian duo. Love the simplicity of the track- the young love story line, the funky musical arrangement, and the music video. I asked you the other day about your thoughts on Wes Anderson because I think their music video has lots of Anderson elements- the colours, the random compilation of objects, camera angles, etc. I visited the National Gallery of Modern Art today, so I'm feeling very artsy. Going well with this song choice!

They only have three tracks out, and I am waiting to see more of their talents and variety in music styles that they produce.
I liked these lyrics from their track- Philosophize.
"I've got a New York state of mind, In Indian standard time... Sometimes it just don't seem to fit"
P.S I like your choice. Catchy for sure. :)

I Love You Baby, and I Love You Doll : Parekh and Singh

A Decade of Laughs and Music

June will mark 10 years of Tanisha and I knowing each other. In school, we were part of a gang of four. Tonight we got a chance to hang out with Ginelle and Sanjana, and reminisce about the good old days. We were sure to grab one quick picture as a keep safe and more importantly got Sanj to write this weeks post. Her music tastes lie very closely to ours and with her selections this week we thought you will barely miss us. Ladies and Gentlemen, presenting Sanjana Govil‏!

Mirage : Barefaced Liar

For me, Barefaced Liar was what proved that the Indian independent music scene has come of age. Theirs are not songs that you just really enjoy at a gig and then can't quite remember afterwards, they're the kind you feel like listening to at home on a Sunday morning. On repeat. Mirage is one of BFL's older songs but continues to be one of my favourites, closely followed by Glow.

The Avalanche : The F16s

It really takes only 5 words for you to love this song ("Would you prefer a metaphor?"), but The F16s go above and beyond (See what I did there?). I love how they take their time building the melody, let it sink in and then start adding layers as you get further into it. Apart from their obvious musical talent, these guys are extremely entertaining to watch live. If you're in Bangalore and don't know what I'm talking about, catch them at The Humming Tree this Sunday (April 18).

An Evening with PK

We are well-aware that we will not be able to see most of our new finds live. We were however, lucky enough to see Prateek Kuhad in Bangalore last week when he performed in the city as part of his Tokens and Charms tour. In honour of a wonderful night of live soulful music, we are both picking PK songs to introduce to you.

Sudhir's Pick
The first song of his I ever heard of his was 'Oh Love'. The tempo and beat stays with you and is accompanied by memorable lyrics. For example, "Don't worry about me/ I've got a million fix up my sleeve".

Seeing PK and Nikhil perform reminded me of John Mayer, Jack Johnson, Bruno Mars and Dave Matthews all at once. A versatile musician, with an extraordinary ability to mix Hindi and English lyrics, this guy represents a musical side of India that is so desperately needed, but not often heard.

(side note- the songs we upload are part of a playlist. So that you can keep listening to all our recommends if you've missed out on any.)

Tanisha's Pick
A few months ago I was listening to a playlist of new Indie artists and was pleasantly surprised to find out that one of the artists featured was Delhi-based singer/songwriter Prateek Kuhad.

Loved the feel of the concert; an amphitheatre setting as apposed to a gig in a restaurant/bar. It made it so easy to get right into each detail of the music- the variety of percussion instruments that drummer Nikhil Vasudevan included and Dhruv Bhola who played the keys, bass and sang at the same time (see above picture)

In terms of the music composition, my favourite from the concert was Into the Night.

The tambourine adds such a happy feel. Somehow their harmonies remind me of Simon and Garfunkel. Notice the perfect timing of the three instruments 1:58 minutes onward.

To top off the show, we got to meet the band at the end of the concert (even recommended Sudhir's garden as a great gig venue) and got a picture with them. Yay!

(Thanks Asma Tajuddin for all the pictures)
